Babes Wodumo Tropika Smoooth Fan

Last week, Lumko Mpande was crowned Khaya Dladla’s smooothest fan after an exciting episode of Tropika Smoooth Fan and this week Mzansi’s Gqom Queen Babes Wodumo is in the hot seat.

Musician Babes Wodumo, whose real name is Bongekile Simelane, spring-boarded the Gqom musical sensation which is currently taking the country by storm with her smash hit ‘Wololo’. The star has gone on to release multiple hit records as she continues to push herself and her musical genre creatively – something that has garnered her a massive following. She recently appeared on Marvel’s Black Panther soundtrack and has just released a new single titled ‘Orkant’ with Major Lazer.

This week, four die-hard celebrity fans will compete in various interactive games in the hopes of being crowned Babes’ smooothest fan. The winner will make it to the semi-finals where they will compete against the smoootest fans of the other celebrity contestants where, after another round of games, the two top contestants will go head to head in the final to win R250 000 cash and a Honda Amaze!Five Minutes With Babes Wodumo:

What attracted you to a show like Tropika Smoooth Fan?

This is something unlike anything else I have done before and, like my biggest fans know, I love a good challenge. I am really excited to interact with my fans on the show and see if they really are as much of a fan as they claim to be.

Why do you think it is important to recognize the fanbase who has been by your side throughout your career?

I love my fans. They’ve really helped springboard my career by supporting my music and have effortlessly helped me get to where I am today. They are the people that admire and recognise each and every thing that you do and it makes you want to work harder than ever before to continue giving them ground-breaking music and performances. That’s why it’s so important to continue to recognize those who are supporting your craft.

Why do you think so many people around the country identify with you and your work?

I don’t try to be anyone or anything I’m not. I’m real. What you see is what you get with me. I am a simple girl from a small township who happened to make it big. But, I make sure that fame doesn’t change me and I think that that it why so many people relate to me and my music.

What do you hope your fans get out of watching you on this week’s episode of Tropika Smoooth Fan?

Well, I hope that my fans get to see a side of me that they don’t usually see in my music, my videos and my performances. I’m excited for them to see my bubbly personality and for them to learn a few exciting facts that they may not have known about me before.

What was the biggest lesson your fans taught you about your career?

I think that the biggest lesson my fans have taught me is to remain humble and to always appreciate and be grateful for the talent that God has given me. It is so easy to take these things for granted and I hope never to do so. I also learnt that I have an incredible support system and that I need to be one too. Many look up to me as a role model of sorts and I hope to inspire many young women around the country.

Tell us something your fans might not know about you?

I am so scared of cockroaches – or any creepy crawlies! If they are around me or fly around me, you can be guaranteed I am jumping around on the sofas or the bed until someone gets rid of them!

Can you share an instance where a fan has changed your life in some way?

One instance which really made an impact on me was when I met a young girl after a show who was in tears when she saw me. She asked if she could touch me and I gave her a big hug. She told me that she is in a rough place in her life right now but that my music has helped her take her mind off things at times and gives her the escape she has been searching for. That’s a moment when I realised that my music has a bigger impact than I could have ever imagined and it’s something that really touched me.

What’s can fans expect from you in the coming months?

Fans can expect some more incredible live performances – especially throughout the festive season and I am always working on new music so keep an eye out for that as well.

Want to be a contestant on the show? Simply buy a Smoooth Fan-branded Tropika at your nearest store, find your unique code and follow the on-pack USSD instructions for your chance to prove you’re the smooothest fan on live television.

Fans also stand to win amazing prizes by snapping a selfie of themselves with a Smoooth Fan branded Tropika, and Whatsapping the image to 071 605 1503 live during the show between 18:00 and 18:30 every Friday.
