Celebrate with Lorna Maseko Book

BBC Studios announced today that Homegrown Tastes South Africa has been green-lit for a second season, returning to BBC Lifestyle’s (DStv channel 174) local line-up in 2023. The second season will again be produced by one of the leading production companies in Africa, Rapid Blue and presented by South African international award-winning celebrity chef and TV personality, Lorna Maseko.

Season one followed Lorna Maseko on a journey across the scenic wonders of South Africa to discover the unique homegrown cuisine from urban street food, haute cuisine, seafood to the finest wines. In each episode, Lorna met a feast of local faces from celebrities such as Pearl Modiadie and Khaya Mthethwa to the country’s incredible chefs, producers and restaurant owners. Audiences were inspired as she prepared her own delicious interpretation using the hero ingredients from each episode.

Filming will commence in December 2022 for 7 weeks.

Ziyanda Ngcaba, Managing Director of Rapid Blue says: “We’re thrilled that the first season of Homegrown Tastes South Africa received such a positive response from BBC Lifestyle viewers. Having been awarded a second season, we can’t wait to cook up more deliciousness and showcase the wonders of South Africa. It’s amazing to work with the talented Lorna Maseko again – she really is the heart that brings the series to life.”

To celebrate South Africa’s incredible produce and the people behind the magic is what makes this show so special. The response to season one was incredible and I can’t wait for audiences to discover even more local stories, delicious recipes and inspirational chefs. I’m so ready for this journey and I can’t wait for BBC Lifestyle’s audiences to join me next year.”

Pierre Cloete, Commercial Director for Africa at BBC Studios says “We are thrilled to bring another season of Homegrown Tastes South Africa to BBC Lifestyle audiences and to have the wonderful Lorna Maseko returning to our screens. We’ve seen a real appetite for local content and this announcement reflects our commitment to bring even more local commissions to the channel. It’s very exciting to have season 2 ready for production and to see the show going from strength to strength”.

Rapid Blue’s production Come Dine With Me South Africa returns for an eighth season from Wednesday 12th October at 8pm.
