According to News24, The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) board has decided to allow a once-off application window period for students who could not apply for funding for the 2021 academic year.

NSFAS spokesperson Kagisho Mamabolo says the terms and conditions will apply and some students have never submitted supporting documents.

Higher Education, Science and Innovation Minister Blade Nzimande said he welcomed the board’s decision to request the database of unfunded 2021 registered students who were eligible for NSFAS funding in all universities.

“The applications will open again tomorrow. Students who have registered at public universities are eligible to apply. This is not for 2022 but for students who registered with their own money for 2021.” – NSFAS Spokesperson Kagisho Mamabalo said

“The NSFAS terms and conditions will apply. We have students that never submitted supporting documents.” – he said

Nzimande said universities were required to send its lists by no later than 17 August to be considered for the once-off application period.

The application period would open for a two-week period, from 18 August – 3 September.

Universities were encouraged to notify students to apply and have all the relevant supporting documents when doing so.

No applications would be accepted after the closing date, Nzimande said.
