South African Artist Makhadzi Celebrated at Welcome Ceremony Following BET Award Win at Culture’s Biggest Night

South African singer and performer Makhadzi received a hero’s welcome at OR Tambo International Airport today, following her triumph at the 2024 BET Awards held in Los Angeles, where she won the prestigious “Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act” award.

The arrival event was graced by the presence of Chief Director Tsholofelo Lejaka (Arts Culture Promotion and Development) from the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, who commended Makhadzi for her remarkable achievement that brought pride not only to Mzansi but to the entire African continent.

As Makhadzi walked through the arrivals gate, proudly holding her BET Award, she was met with cheers and applause from fans, media, and dignitaries. The atmosphere was charged with excitement and national pride.

Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, who coudn’t attend due to his cabinet compulsory commitment had this to say, “Today, we celebrate Makhadzi, a shining star whose talent and hard work have not only earned her a well-deserved BET Awards international accolade but also put South African and African music on the global map. Her success is a testament to the power of perseverance and the richness of our cultural heritage. We are incredibly proud of her as she remain a pillar of our diverse nation.”
