According to Citizen, Cape Town City midfielder Teko Modise holds nothing back in his new book ‘The Curse of Teko Modi’. The memoir reveals how muti rituals were performed at Orlando Pirates.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns F.C player released his new memoir, The Curse of Teko Modise, on November 28.
The tell-all book details midnight baths on the eve of games that it is asserted Modise and his teammates took part in when the former Bafana Bafana play-maker played for Pirates between 2007 and 2011
โWe believed in muti a lot at Orlando Pirates. We used to bath a lot [in muti]. The whole body was itchy,โ Modise asserted at his book launch.
โPlayers didnโt know what was in the bath. We just did what we were told to do, and if we didnโt do what were supposed to do, obviously itโs got its own punishment,โ he added.
โIt [muti] is within the culture of Orlando Pirates. I found it there, and Iโm sure there are guys who have played before me that would be cultured like that.โ
Teko Modise is the second former Pirates player to claim that the club was using muti after Benson Mhlongo said Platinum Stars was the only club he had played for that never forced him to use muthi in an interview with SABC Sport.
The claims have received mixed reactions on social media, with many upset by the clubโs reported practices.
